God is… My Helper

God “is” “My Helper”. “Is” meaning ; “existing in this moment of time“, and “the substance, characteristics, and/or character of a thing”. God “is” a “right now”, “in this moment” God; alive, active and available to us. His “substance”, “characteristics”, and “character” is “My Helper”.But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is,…..” Hebrews 11:6

Psalm 54:4 (NASB)
Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.

This Old Testament concept of “helper” extends to both military and personal “help”.

2 Chronicles 26:6-7 (NASB)
Now he went out and warred against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in the area of Ashdod and among the Philistines. God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who lived in Gur-baal, and the Meunites.

Isaiah 41:10 (NASB)
‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

In Old Testament times, God is seen as an “external” force of “help”. He will retain that status in the New Testament as well; however, in the New Testament, Jesus will introduce a whole new dimension of God as our “helper”.

John 14:16-17 (NASB)
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

John 15:26-27 (NASB)
“When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, and you will testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

John 16:7-15 (NASB)
7 -11″But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

12-15 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

“He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.”

The “Helper”; The Spirit of God, The Holy Spirit, The Spirit of Truth, The Spirit of Grace, The Comforter, The Spirit of Christ, etc., etc. has been sent to “live” in us and be an “internal” force, that according to Jesus: “He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.”

What an amazing privilege and opportunity New Testament believers have been given; the actual Presence of God (representing everything that makes Him God) has been sent to dwell in our hearts and “HELP” us in every situation and aspect of our lives. “THE HELPER” will move in to our heart and “help” us 24/7/365, and He will get involved with “helping” us in every aspect of our lives that we will “allow” Him to have access. We do not have to “wait for help”, or “hope for help”; “My Helper” has been sent to dwell in me, to be my constant source of “help” in any area or life-situation I am in at any moment of the day.

Our concept of His “isness”; the manner in which we define His nature, substance, characteristics, and character, and the way we “receive” His “isness” into our life and depend on (have faith in) it, will be the role that we “anticipate/expect” or “will allow” God to play in our lives.

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is,…..” God “is” “My Helper”.
