It has been said that all our freedoms hinge on the 2nd amendment. In recent years, I have become convinced that ALL our freedoms are at serious risk. Even when our 2nd amendment rights are not directly assaulted, they are in great danger. When we lose our freedom to make our own health care choices, freedom as a business owner to make our own decisions regarding smoking, the very right to LIFE as an innocent unborn child….. Then our right to bear arms is certain to be next! The left knows that a full frontal attack against our right to bear arms would result in a massive resistance, but if they can chip away at our other freedoms we soon will be unable to defend even our 2nd amendment rights.
The NRA has placed political expediency above their defense of our rights, by endorsing Rep Sandlin over Kristi Noem. Kristi has been a defender of ALL our rights. Sandlin…. Well, not so much!! The NRA has lost its soul. When the outcry was too great for them to endorse Harry Reid, they chose not to endorse at all…. even though his opponent had a better rating in the most recent ratings. They don’t know, or don’t care that all of our freedoms are linked together, and that by endorsing candidates who are intent on taking away other freedoms, they are putting our right to bear arms at risk as well.
While all of this is troubling, what concerns me more is that two of the State’s Republican leaders have been silent on this issue. Dennis Daugaard and John Thune should refuse to accept (or return) their NRA endorsements and take a public stand with Kristi Noem as the true gun rights candidate in the US House race. They have an opportunity to do the right thing or remain silent. Many of us are weary of political expediency. We are looking for LEADERS. Sen. Thune….. Lt. Gov. Daugaard…. It’s your move!!
